　　Gavin Elster (Tom Helmore), a classmate of retired police detective John Ferguson (James Stewart), is a shipbuilder. He asked John to follow his wife, saying that she was often possessed by ghosts. Subsequently, John follows Gavin's instructions and meets a beautiful woman (Kim Novak) at Ernie's restaurant. After following her, John discovers that the woman is doing something unusual: driving out, going to the flower shop to buy flowers, going to the cemetery to stop in front of the monument of Carlotta Valdés, going to the Honors Museum to gaze at the portrait of Carlotta, and finally entering the Mackikok Hotel and appearing in front of a window on the second floor. John then entered the hotel to investigate and found that the woman's name was Carlota Valdés, but there was no one in her room. Who is Carlotta Valdés, and can ghosts really possess living people?
